This is the first time I've ever had a dayshade of my own. I have the Anglo-Saxon geteld, but it has PVC poles, is really bulky and is hard to use at a tournament. I've never realized until Crown how wonderful it is to have a space of one's own, and to be able to offer the hospitality of one's own shade and food to others like that. It was a wonderful experience that I wish more people could have.
With that in mind, I'm thinking about making these dayshades for public consumption. The materials are relatively inexpensive, they're easy to build, and are nice enough that I think people might actually pay for them.
So I created a poll to guage what people are looking for in a dayshade.
You're a typical SCAdian who can't afford a pavilion from Panther and don't want to cart it out to tourneys anyway, but would like something better than a plastic pop-up. How much would you be willing to budget for a 15x15 dayshade with no traces of modernity that can break down to fit in the smallest of trunks?
What if it were modular, and could be attached to others like it to extend as long as you or your household/warband/fellow merchants wanted in a long gallery, or a large hall 30' wide and as long as needed?
What would you be looking for in such a dayshade?
